Common questions about your initial sleep assessment
1. WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON MY FIRST VISIT?
You will fill in some forms to provide the physician with some background information. Then, you will see the physician and he/she will complete an initial evaluation of your sleep health. The first visit takes about one hour.
2. IS THERE A CHARGE FOR THE FIRST VISIT?
No, all consultations with the physician are covered by Alberta Health Care. If a diagnostic test is required there is a cost as these tests are not on the Alberta fee schedule.
3. DO I REQUIRE A DOCTOR'S REFERRAL TO ATTEND THE CLINIC?
You do not require a doctor's referral, but it is beneficial for us if you provide the name of your family physician so that we can forward a copy of the initial consultation.
4. HOW DOES A PHYSICIAN MAKE A REFERRAL?
We will e-mail or fax the clinic a referral form or they can obtain a copy from our website. Once we have received the referral, it will be triaged by the Medical Director. We will then contact the patient to schedule an appointment.
5. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET IN?
Our wait time is only six to eight weeks. If the referral is assessed as urgent, the wait period will be shorter.
