What Is A Diagnostic Sleep Study?

Chronic fatigue, insomnia, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy can all often be corrected by a sleep physician. Sleep studies are investigations that provide information for the sleep physician to diagnose and treat sleep disorders.

The Centre for Sleep & Human Performance provides overnight sleep studies, daytime testing of conditions of daytime sleepiness, and objective testing of attention and concentration. All investigations can be carried out either in the sleep laboratory on-site or in the comfort of your home.

Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT)

The CSHP Level III Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT) provides a convenient and cost-effective way to get the test done at the comfort of your own home, while allowing us to collect important information on how you sleep and make a diagnosis of OSA.

Your Appointment

You will fill in some forms to provide the physician with some background information. Then, you will see the physician and he/she will complete an initial evaluation of your sleep health. The first visit takes about one hour.

No, all consultations with the physician are covered by Alberta Health Services. If a diagnostic test is required there is a cost as these tests are not on the Alberta fee schedule.

You do not require a doctor’s referral, but it is beneficial for us if you provide the name of your family physician so that we can forward a copy of the initial consultation.

We will e-mail or fax the clinic a referral form or they can obtain a copy from our website. Once we have received the referral, it will be triaged by the Medical Director. We will then contact the patient to schedule an appointment.

Our wait time is only six to eight weeks. If the referral is assessed as urgent, the wait period will be shorter.
