March 15th is World Sleep Day! Observed on the Friday preceding the vernal equinox and hosted by the World Sleep Society, World Sleep Day is "intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving".
This year Centre for Sleep is proud to be a World Sleep Day delegate! The Centre for Sleep & Human Performance is recognized internationally as a leading research group providing assistance to the Canadian National and Olympic Team athletes on how to use sleep to improve recovery, regeneration, and performance.
Through our work with these elite athletes, we recognized the need for a sleep screening tool specific to athletes. Consequently, after years of research, development, and testing* the Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) was created. For a World Sleep Day activity, we have provided the opportunity for athletes &/or teams to complete our ASSQ. Check it out!
*In June of 2018 the paper The Clinical Validation of the Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire: an Instrument to Identify Athletes that Need Further Sleep Assessment was published in Sports Medicine.
